Giving and Receiving Love

This holiday I've had the pleasure of knitting a few things for some of my favorite people.   Finally the gifting is out and I can let you all in on what's been going on with my needles since early December!

For one of my best friends:

Bella's Mittens

Pattern: Bella's Mittens (ravelry link)
Yarn: Rowan Cocoon, 2 balls
Needles: US9s Addi Circs

My close girlfriends and I have participated in our own Secret Santa for the past 4 years now!  This is the 2nd time I got my good friend Julie. I think by now all my girlfriends know that whom ever I have is going to receive something knitted.  It wasn't hard to choose the Bella Mittens as she, myself and my other two girlfriends are pretty much obsessed with the books. Midnight showing of New Moon?  Yup we were there. I really enjoyed making these! They are speedy and very well fitting mittens.  I need to make myself a pair so we can be matchy-matchy.   Over the years my best friend Julie has been the recipient of many a knitted gift from me.  I think by now I've outfitted her completely.  I guess next time she'll get socks ;-)

For my wonderful F.I.L:

Men's socks for my F.I.L

Pattern: Based on Men's Socks for Giving from the Purl Bee
Yarn: KPPPM, grey and green
Needle: US 1 Addi Circs

My FIL is a dad's dad.  He's a no frills, practical awesome kind of man. So when I pulled his name for the in-law Secret Santa I knew right away that he would be a perfect recipient of a nice pair of  wool socks.  I enjoyed making these so much that I've already casted on a pair for myself  in Kersti and have a request from my bro-in-law.  I really enjoy the striping details and the green gusset and toes.

For my favorite L.Y.S owner who also happens to be my B.F.F:

Circular Shrug

Pattern: Circular Shrug by Julia Allen – raveled
Yarn: Rowan Felted Tweed, 6 balls
Needle: US 9 Addi Circular

A few of us at the LYS decided to do a little gift giving this year.  We were sitting around talking one night about the many things we were making for other people and someone *coughmecough* suggested we draw names to make each other something too.  I drew darling Patricia!  I knew I didn't want to make her just a hat or scarf so I perused the good ol' Ravelry pattern-base and found the Circular Shrug.

Circular Shrug

I almost had to pry this one out of my hands when I was putting this into the gift bag.  I tried it on a few times for fit while making it and every time was just surprised at how clever and pretty it was.  I think Trish likes it too as she's hardly taken it off since I gave it to her.  Success!

And yes of COURSE I got some fun things in return!

Hot Shrug Trish!

For the LYS Santa Swap I received a beautiful Misti Alpaca scarf from Heather!  Here I am with the super happy smile on my face with Patricia and her fabulous Circular Shawl.  The scarf is beautiful and I love wearing it!  Thank you Heather!!

And last but certainly not least. My SFAM, Nonnahs, and I finally got around to doing a swap!

My SFAM Beret!!

This beautiful beret came just days before Christmas.  I LOVE IT!!!  This is what I made her.  It's obvious that this isn't going to be the last time we swap!!

So much giving and recieving and the best part to all this is the people behind each piece.  I have had such a wonderful 2009 and am so blessed with the many many wonderful people that have entered my life.  To be able to knit and share joy is just a small measure to the happiness I get from just knowing all these people.

I hope you and yours had a lovely holiday and spent quality time with your loved ones.  It's those moments that make all this worth while.

So much awesomeness, I don’t know where to begin!! The Cocoon was a genius call & perfect for the mittens. Your FIL is no doubt thrilled with the socks and the shrug is amazing. Where do you find the time…;)
